3 Veggie-Based Ice Pops Even Kids Will Eat!
September 28, 2017Can’t stop your child from craving for sweets? Wished the growing tod will eat his veggies? Well, instead of turning veggies into an unappetising mush, why not make them into delicious ice pops and serve them up as desserts or treats?
AIM: You want your kid to eat more greens
We all know a child who can’t bear the thought of putting green veggies into his mouth. And even if you did get him to try some veggie juice, he might not want to eat the thing leaf, stem and all. This ice pop doesn’t use the juice, it uses the entire spinach.
Blend spinach and coconut water until smooth. Add more coconut water if need be.
Blend strawberries and Greek yoghurt.
Fill half an ice pop mould with the spinach mixture and the other half with the strawberry mixture.
Use a chopstick to swirl the 2 mixtures to form a marble pattern.
Freeze for at least 8 hours before unmoulding.
AIM: You want your kid to eat the skin of his potatoes
Anyone with a basic understanding of nutrition will know that the skin of the potato is where all the nutrients are found! However, if your child’s idea of “potato” is French fries, it may be tough to get him to try eating his spud with skin on.
Clean the sweet potato thoroughly. Chop into small pieces and steam until a fork can pierce it easily.
Blend the steamed sweet potato with the coconut water until smooth.
Blend the blueberries and the Greek yoghurt.
Fill half the mould with each mixture.
Use a chopstick to swirl the 2 mixtures to mix them up a bit.
Freeze for at least 8 hours before unmoulding.
AIM: You want your child to try a new vegetable, like beetroot
Admit it: even some adults find the beetroot hard to stomach. But with a bit of imagination, you can make a palatable ice pop out of it. Plus, the crimson red of the beetroot makes for an attractive ice pop that’s sure to get your kid eagerly reaching out for one!
Blend all ingredients together until smooth.
Fill ice pop moulds with mixture.
Freeze for at least 8 hours before unmoulding.
