4 Turmeric Beverages To Start Drinking Now
May 4, 2017Have you gotten onto the turmeric bandwagon yet?
Google‘s Food Trends report named turmeric as the “breakout star” ingredient of 2016, with internet searches for the yellow spice rising 56 per cent from since November 2015, and a whopping 300 per cent over the last five years.
So, what is turmeric?
Turmeric is the spice that gives curry its yellow colour. It contains compounds called curcuminoids, the most important of which is curcumin. Curcumin is a powerful anti-inflammatory and a strong antioxidant.
Why is it important to take an anti-inflammatory?
It is now believed that chronic, low-level inflammation plays a major role in almost every chronic, Western disease. This includes heart disease, cancer, metabolic syndrome, Alzheimer’s and various degenerative conditions.
Therefore, anything that can help fight chronic inflammation is of potential importance in preventing and even treating these diseases.
If eating curries on a daily basis seems too much for your digestive system, here are four turmeric beverages you can try.
For a morning detox drink
Warm up roughly a cup of water. You have to be able to dip your finger into the water.
Add lemon juice, turmeric, and honey to the warm water. Stir well.
The turmeric won’t dissolve so remember to give the drink a stir before each sip.
For an immunity boost
Add all ingredients into a blender and blend till smooth.
For a mid-day cuppa
Gently warm the almond milk. Do not boil.
Add turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon. Stir well until there are no lumps.
Add coconut oil and honey. Add black pepper.
Pour content into a high-speed blend and whizz until frothy.
Pour into a cup and sprinkle with more cinnamon, if desired.
For a night digestif
In a saucepan, add all ingredients except the honey.
Over low heat, whisk to combine the ingredients. When the milk starts to bubble, remove from heat.
Strain out the ginger and add honey to sweeten.
