The HairMax LaserComb has been designed with both comfort and convenience in mind. To turn on the HairMax LaserComb press the “power” button and then the “laser” button on the front of the unit. Next, place the LaserComb flat on your head using the two rows of teeth. Rather than constantly moving the HairMax LaserComb through your hair (as you would with a regular brush or comb), you will use what we like to call the “glide” method by placing the HairMax LaserComb on a specific spot on your head and gently gliding it back a ½ inch each time the audible four-second beep occurs. Move from the front of your hairline to the back of your head and then repeat the process moving in the opposite direction. The “glide” method is the best way to ensure that the LaserComb will be as effective as possible for you.
In addition to being very easy to operate, the HairMax LaserComb is also a relaxing and enjoyable product to use. There are no drugs, sprays, topical ointments, or powders to worry about, and it can be used in the comfort of your own home at your own convenience.
We recommend that the HairMax LaserComb be used 3 times per week, 8-15 minutes per hair loss treatment for optimal results.
Hair care treatment, as with the treatment of any condition, is an ongoing process. For this reason, it is imperative that, to keep seeing positive benefits from the HairMax LaserComb, you use it as indicated on a consistent basis. You can miss a day here and there and be alright, but all in all, if you do not use the product as recommended, there is a strong possibility that you will not see desirable results or you will regress to where you were prior to using the HairMax LaserComb.
User experience will vary. In general, there are three categories of user experience:
Many users will see positive results after 8 weeks of treatment. More will see benefits from weeks 10-16. A small minority of users will begin to see subtle improvements (if any) after 16 weeks.
The HairMax LaserComb may improve the appearance of the entire head: back, front, top and sides
Hair is a photoprotectant that filters out light from reaching the scalp. Therefore, the hood or helmet devices only deliver light energy to the top of the scalp, which can diminish the delivery of energy. Also, some helmet type devices utilize a combination of LED and laser light as part of their devices, when LED’s have not been proven to successfully treat hair loss. The HairMax on the other hand is a light weight device (1/3 the weight of a hair dryer) that only has to be used 3 times a week for 8 – 15 minutes a session to effectively treat pattern baldness. The HairMax also utilizes only lasers, and has a hair parting teeth mechanism built-in, that automatically parts the hair during use, to assure optimal delivery of laser light to the scalp. Since the HairMax is a hand held device, you have the option of either treating only the areas of actual hair loss or you can choose to treat your whole scalp. Finally, unlike the hood/helmet devices, the HairMax has been found to be safe and effective in 7 clinical trials with 460 subjects, which gives you confidence that the device will work in a consistent and predictable manner.
It is actually never too soon to start. The better the initial condition of your hair, the better your results with the HairMax LaserComb can be. The HairMax LaserComb treatment should be incorporated into your daily preventative maintenance routine, much like brushing every day to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
A clinical study showed that the HairMax device is effective and safe for treating females with pattern hair loss. The results of this clinical trial was submitted to the FDA in a 510(k) application and Clearance for marketing was granted for HairMax for the treatment of female pattern hair loss.
We do recommend that you use the HairMax LaserComb on a clean scalp so that the laser can effectively improve the appearance of your hair without being hindered by oils, dandruff, etc. The reason for this is to prevent product build-up from blocking the laser light. However, you can also address this by cleaning your HairMax with a damp cloth before and after each use.
We recommend that you wash your hair at least three times a week. This way the HairMax LaserComb can work effectively without the possible blockage which comes with having excessive oil build-up on the scalp or excessive dandruff. However, this is not imperative for the HairMax LaserComb to be effective; you can also address this by cleaning your LaserComb with a damp cloth before and after each use.
Many people do not have the time or the money to undertake treatment of their hair loss at a salon or clinic location. The HairMax LaserComb being a home use device can be used in the comfort of ones’ home at their convenience for safe and effective treatment. Since hair is a photoprotectant that filters out light from reaching the scalp, the HairMax has a built-in teeth mechanism that parts the hair during use to allow for optimal delivery of laser energy to the scalp, unlike hood devices that only deliver energy to the top of the hair. Most importantly, the HairMax LaserComb has been proven in clinical studies to work in treating hair loss from pattern baldness*. The HairMax is the only laser phototherapy device to have FDA 510(K) marketing clearance for both men and women with pattern hair loss.
To recharge the Lux 9, simply plug the power cord directly into the HairMax handle or place the device in the charging cradle. The HairMax Advanced 7 runs on 4 AA batteries. When the battery power diminishes, simply replace the 4 batteries.
The HairMax is equipped with a built-in Lithium Ion battery and once charged can be used for approximately 24 hours of continuous use. When the battery requires charging, the HairMax will turn off and the red laser indicator light will start to blink. It is recommended that you always return the HairMax to the charging cradle after each use to keep it fully charged.
It takes approximately 2-3 hours for the HairMax to fully charge. When charging the indicator light will light up red, once fully charged the indicator light will turn green which means that the device is fully charged and ready to use.
If the laser power diminishes because of low battery the device will automatically power off. If this should happen while in use, simply plug in the power supply and continue your treatment. It is recommended that you carry the power cord with you if you are away from the charging cradle location for an extended period of time.

All models of the HairMax LaserComb deliver the same laser energy, but the difference in the number of laser diodes contained in the devices effect treatment time requirements. The more laser diodes contained, the less treatment time is required. Below is a description of the new models:
* The new HairMax LaserComb Advanced 7 model contains 7 laser diodes and utilizes 4 alkaline batteries and a storage stand. This entry level device is excellent for patients with budgetary constraints.
* The new HairMax LaserComb Lux 9 model contains 9 laser diodes and utilizes a rechargeable lithium ion battery and a charging cradle.
As with all products, like cell phones and other devices, there is a very big difference in quality, performance, and efficacy. These cosmetic laser combs you see advertised are generally produced by “fly by night” outfits that produce these combs without any standards or procedures. They have not been subject to FDA review and they do not have any proof that they regrow hair. Further, these other devices have significant quality control issues, faulty designs, high failure rates and generally poor customer service, not to mention questionable personal ethics. It is easy to advertise on the internet, but very difficult to produce a quality product that adheres to strict quality standards.
In clinical studies and in general use since 2001, there has never been any report of serious adverse events occurring.
The HairMax LaserComb has been specially designed using low power requirements for maximum attention to visual safety. Avoid direct contact with eyes.
The HairMax LaserComb has helped hundreds of men and women to successfully treat their hair loss in the over 10 years the device has been on the market we have a 93% user satisfaction rate.
